Data Management Specialist – Insurance (Azure Data Platform)

About the Role

Colate is seeking a detail-oriented Data Management Specialist with strong experience in the Insurance domain and exposure to Microsoft Azure Data Platform. The role focuses on ensuring high-quality, governed, and compliant data across enterprise systems to support business operations, analytics, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Data Governance & Data Quality

Implement and maintain data governance frameworks, standards, and policies.

Ensure data quality, accuracy, consistency, and completeness across systems.

Define and track data quality KPIs and metrics.

Manage data lineage, metadata, and data cataloging processes.

Data Management & Stewardship

Act as a Data Steward for key Insurance data domains (Policy, Claims, Customer, Finance).

Define and maintain business glossaries and data definitions.

Ensure adherence to master data management (MDM) practices.

Support resolution of data issues, anomalies, and inconsistencies.

Azure Data Platform Support

Work with data engineering teams on Azure-based data platforms, including:

Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS)

Azure Data Factory (ADF)

Azure Synapse Analytics

Monitor and validate data pipelines, ingestion processes, and data transformations.

Ensure data security and access controls in the Azure environment.

Regulatory & Compliance

Ensure data compliance with Insurance regulations (e.g., IFRS 17, Solvency II, GDPR).

Support audit activities and regulatory reporting by ensuring trusted data availability.

Maintain documentation for data policies, controls, and governance processes.

Stakeholder Collaboration

Work closely with business users (Underwriting, Claims, Finance, Actuarial) to understand data requirements.

Collaborate with data architects, engineers, and analysts to ensure proper data usage.

Provide guidance on data standards and best practices across teams.

Data Operations & Continuous Improvement

Monitor data systems and proactively identify data quality and governance gaps.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives in data management practices.

Support data migration, cleansing, and transformation efforts.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field

6–10+ years of experience in data management, data governance, or data quality roles

Experience in Insurance domain (Life/P&C/Reinsurance)

Technical Skills

Understanding of:

Data governance and data quality frameworks

Master Data Management (MDM)

Data lineage and metadata management

Exposure to Azure Data Platform tools:

ADF, ADLS, Synapse (working knowledge preferred)

Familiarity with:

SQL and data validation techniques

Data profiling and cleansing tools

Domain Expertise (Insurance)

Knowledge of:

Policy lifecycle, claims processing, underwriting workflows

Core Insurance data entities (Policy, Claims, Customer, Billing)

Experience working with Insurance data systems and reporting needs

Preferred Skills

Experience with data governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Purview)

Azure certification (Fundamentals or Data-related preferred)

Exposure to data privacy and security frameworks

Experience supporting analytics and reporting teams
